Honeywell announced it plans to build a new software development center in Atlanta, Georgia and will relocate the headquarters for Home and Building Technologies to the city as well. The company said in a news release the site will open by the fourth quarter of 2016 and the company plans to staff more than 730 software-focused employees there over the next five years. Honeywell said it plans to invest $19 million in the site and expects to receive about $2 million in grants from the State of Georgia and Invest Atlanta. The company also anticipates receiving more than $10 million in tax credits.

The company said about 60 percent of its growth over the next fives will be connected to software. Honeywell, which opened its new global headquarters in Morris Plains last year, already has about 1,000 employees at 11 locations in Georgia. Justin Zaremba may be reached. Follow him on Twitter.
